Lifestyle by Hope and Care

Dr. Akshat Chadha, M.B.B.S., is a General Physician along with an M.B.A in Healthcare Management with expertise in Lifestyle Medicine. As a doctor, he has done extensive work in the field of lifestyle and disease management with special emphasis on Diabetes, Thyroid, PCOD and Obesity. According to him, it’s you and the lifestyle you lead that will determine how healthy and disease-free your life can be in the future. The paramount for achieving a healthy lifestyle is by creating a good balance inorder to remain Physically and Mentally fit. He himself takes health and fitness seriously and has transformed his own lifestyle by making small changes.
One thing he strongly believes in is the mind-body connect – a doctor cannot treat a body without helping the mind simultaneously and a patient cannot heal if he doesn’t believe that he can. Along with the symptoms and the reports, one must try and find the root cause of the problem which will help treat the patient and not just reduce symptoms. He also believes that if every healthcare professional starts to see the patient as a human being first and treat the person going through the disease instead of just treating the disease the world will soon see a shift in the mindset towards healthcare and not just sickcare.

Why Lifestyle?

Lifestyle is an everyday thing, it’s a habit, it’s how we live and keeping it healthy can be a task as even the slightest change in our routines can throw us off course. People tend to take their health for granted until something happens like a bad blood report or a simple fever which repeats itself or a negative diagnosis of a loved one, which creates fear. It’s the fear that motivates but again it is short lived as once we are back into our routine, health again takes a back seat. How do we create a work – life, work – health balance is very important which is why having someone to handhold is always helpful. An integrated team helps people create and sustain this balance.

Lifestyle as medicine needs to be propagated, as lifestyle is the only drug you can take lifelong and has no side effects. Even the Father of Medicine Hippocrates believed that Food must be used as medicine. To quote him - Natural forces within us are the true healers of disease and Walking is man's best medicine. Lifestyle medicine is the bright future for the patients and they must open their minds to living healthy and holistically.

Periscope
Periscope, the non-invasive Cardiovascular Analyser, comprehensively profiles the cardiovascular function of the patient. It simultaneously records NIBP oscillations of all four limbs and ECG waveforms to calculate important parameters like , Pulse Wave Velocity of all segments of the arterial System, Carotid Femoral Pulse Wave Velocity, ABI, ASI, MAP, PP AND Estimated Central Aortic BP values.

Canwin
It analyses both Sympathetic and Parasympathetic autonomic Nervous System Response of the Patient. It uses Tachocardiogram (TCG) and NIBP to conduct a battery of six tests, which include Resting HR, Deep Breathing, Response to standing, Valsalva Maneuver, Postural Hypertension and Sustained Handgrip. Being fully automatic, it eliminates the need of manual recordings, readings and calculations.

Why should we do the Periscope & Canwin Test?

Among markers of arterial disease, arterial stiffness has proven to be an important parameter for the assessment of cardiovascular (CV) risk. From the different methods to assess arterial stiffness, carotid to femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV) has emerged as the gold standard method because of its relative ease in determination, its perceived reliability, and most importantly because of the large body of evidence demonstrating its association with incident CV disease (CVD). Increasingly, arterial stiffness measures and PWW are included in routine clinical assessment of patients.

The bottom line is that with aging comes stiffness, comes BP elevation, pulse pressure increase. 10 yrs ago, people were focusing on BP but now we are focusing on arterial stiffness and vascular aging and that leads to the concept of vascular protection.

Periscope and Canwin are the complete range of equipment for:

- Cardiovascular Risk
- Cardiac Autonomic Neuropathy
- Distal Symmetric Polyneuropathy
- Peripheral Artery Disease
